On 05/12/2011 at 0716 the Burlington Police Department received the report from a resident of 26 Beacon Street that a male party was observed stealing the license plate off of her motor vehicle. The suspect was described as a light skinned male wearing grey sweatpants and a green colored sweatshirt. When the suspect noticed that he was observed, he got into a tan colored Toyota Camry and quickly fled the scene. The reporting party/victim followed the suspect in her own personal vehicle for a short distance updating the Burlington Police of the suspect’s location and direction of travel. The victim eventually lost sight of the suspect. A check of the registration of the suspect’s vehicle indicated that it was previously stolen out of Chelsea MA.

Two marked Burlington Police cruisers located the suspect operating the vehicle a short distance away near the intersection of Cambridge Street and Mall Road. When the suspect observed the cruisers, he sped up and fled West onto Mall Road at which point he immediately turned into a nearby assisted living facility parking lot. The suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

With the assistance of other Burlington units a perimeter was immediately established. Burlington K-9 responded and conducted a track. Due to its close proximity to the search area, the Burlington High School was made aware of the incident and as a precautionary measure was asked to secure their doors. The track was conducted and the suspect was not located.

The suspect’s vehicle was towed to the Burlington Police Department for processing by Detectives. This incident remains under investigation.
