Fatal MV Crash at Winn Street and Center Street on 12/24/2011

RE:                              Fatal MV Crash at Winn Street and Center Street on 12/24/2011

At approximately 1:49 PM on Saturday, December 24, 2011 the Burlington Police Department responded to a two car motor vehicle crash with injuries at Winn Street and Center Street.  Burlington Fire/Rescue was also dispatched and responded.  The Massachusetts State Police responded to assist in the investigation and reconstruction of the motor vehicle crash.

One of the operators involved in the crash later died.  The cause of death is still pending per the investigation by the Medical Examiner’s Office.  At this time, there are no charges pending.

Kimball Court Towers Domestic Disturbance

At approximately 11:17 AM on Saturday, September 17, 2011 the Burlington
Police Department responded to a report of a domestic assault at the Kimball
Court Towers. Upon arrival, officers received information regarding a domestic
assault and battery which had occurred just moments before on a woman by her
husband. Officers also learned that the suspect fled the area prior to their arrival.
The victim was treated and transported to the hospital by the Burlington Fire/
Rescue.

The Burlington Police, along with the Burlington Police K9 Unit conducted a
search for the suspect. Burlington Police were assisted in this search by units
from the Woburn Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police, including
a State Police K9 Unit. The suspect, identified as Mr. Alberto Perez, was later
apprehended in the neighboring City of Woburn during that search.

Mr. Alberto Perez, (38 years old) of Providence, Rhode Island is currently being
charged with assault and battery (felonious). Additional charges may follow
pending the investigation which is still on-going.

Stabbing at Littles Brook Court

Burlington Police responded to the Littles Brook Court apartment complex at approximately 1am Friday morning to investigate an ongoing assault and possible stabbing in the parking lot. Officers arrived to find multiple people standing outside. An altercation between two men resulted in one being stabbed multiple times. The victim was transported to the Lahey Clinic for treatment by Burlington Fire.  His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening at this time.

The suspect, Aaron Montgomery of Billerica was placed under arrest for Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon causing serious bodily injury.

Detective Al Gagne responded for further investigation. The suspect was arraigned at Woburn District Court Friday morning.

Pedestrian crash on Cambridge Street on August 14

At approximately 8:00 PM on Sunday August 14, 2011 the Burlington Police
Department responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a car on Cambridge
Street near Olympian Way. As a result of that crash the Massachusetts State
Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section was called to assist. The
scene was cleared at approximately 10:50 PM.

All questions relative to this crash are being directed to and handled by the
Middlesex County District Attorney’s office.

Burlington Police Lieutenant becomes Certified Law Enforcement Analyst

The Burlington Police Department is pleased to announce that Lieutenant Glen Mills has met all of the requirements to become a Certified Law Enforcement Analyst (CLEA) through the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA)

According to the IACA, the CLEA certification program is a credentialing program designed to set a basic standard of excellence for crime analysts, by crime analysts. It sets a standard of achievement for working analysts who are looking for additional recognition and advancement within the field.

In order to become a CLEA one needs to have a high level of training and experience within the field of crime analysis and pass a rigorous examination.

The International Association of Crime Analysts has over 1860 members in 35 countries. There are currently 26 Certified Law Enforcement Analysts. Lieutenant Mills is also the current president of the Massachusetts Association of Crime Analysts (MACA) and a member of the IACA Training Committee.

On Monday May 16, 2011 at approximately 1 PM an off duty Burlington police officer observed a suspicious male on Jonathan Road. Patrol officers and detectives responded to the area. There have been recent housebreaks adjacent to that location.

Detectives located an unoccupied home on Jonathan Rd. with a rear door ajar. It appeared that the home had been ransacked. Detectives and patrol officers then saw a male running from that area, up Woodhill Rd. carrying a black backpack. A foot pursuit led officers to a residence on Sheldon St.

Daniel Mulcahey of 8 Sheldon St.Burlington was placed under arrest and charged with Breaking and Entering/ Daytime with intent to commit a felony and Larceny from a Building.

The homeowner on Jonathan Rd. provided a list missing items. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the Sheldon St address.  Several pieces of evidence linking the suspect to the crime were recovered. Mulcahey was held on $5,000 cash bail. He is now free on bail.
