Firearms Licensing
License to Carry Firearms (LTC)/Firearms Identification Card (FID) Application
Only Burlington residents are able to apply for an LTC/FID with the Burlington Police Department.
Note: Non-resident business owners are no longer able to apply for an LTC/FID with the Burlington Police Department.
Other Massachusetts residents need to apply directly to the city/town police department where they reside.
Outside of Massachusetts: Non-residents must apply for a Non-Resident Temporary LTC through the MIRCS Firearms Licensing Portal

Fees
All fees must be paid at the Burlington Town Hall Tax Office (29 Center Street) in cash or check (made payable to the Town of Burlington). You will receive a receipt.
Drop a copy of the receipt off at the front desk of the Burlington Police Department. Your application will not be processed until your receipt is received.

There are two ways to apply for an LTC/FID:
Online Application
Online application using the MIRCS Firearms Licensing Portal:
- New Applicant: A copy of your basic firearms safety course certificate must be uploaded to the “Documents” section of the online application.
If you are unable to attach this to the “Documents” section, please print out the basic firearms safety course (as applicable) and submit at the front desk at the Burlington Police Department.
- Provide details and supporting documentation if you answered “YES” to questions 2 – 15.
- Drop off the fee receipt (if applicable) at the front desk at the Burlington Police Department.
Paper Application

Note: Paper applications are also available to pick up from the Burlington Police Department lobby
- Complete the paper application in its entirety
- Provide details and supporting documentation (if necessary) if you answered “YES” to questions 2 – 15
- New Applicant: Attach a copy of your basic firearms safety course certificate to the paper application.
- Renewal Applicant: Ensure you have completed and signed the LTC/FID Affidavit (page 4 of the application) attached to your application.
Submit the completed application, fee receipt (if applicable), and supporting documents (if applicable) to the Burlington Police Department:
- Drop off the application at the front desk of the Burlington Police Department; or
- Mail the application to the Burlington Police Department:

After Submitting Your Application
New Applicant: You will receive a telephone call to confirm an appointment for fingerprinting. Your license will be mailed to you once it has been approved.
Renewal Applicant: Fingerprints are not required. Your license will be mailed to you once it has been approved.
Checking the Status of My Application
Contact the Firearm Records Bureau:
- MIRCS Firearms Licensing Portal; or
- Call the Firearms License Application Status Hotline at 617-660-47222
Note: Have your full name, date of birth, and driver’s license number available
Notification of Address Change
The holder of a FID (M.G.L. c. 140 § 129B) or LTC (M.G.L. c. 140 § 131) shall report any change of address via the MIRCS Firearms Licensing Portal within 30 days.
